Cow work

I do enjoy cow work.  I remember as a girl always wanting to be involved with the process.  Helping my grandpa T. milk cows was such a wonderful experience that I will never forget! I remember getting up way before the sun comes up and gathering the cows on Spike ( the old, reliable horse) while G-pa got things ready in the milk house.  Whether rain, snow, or flys and heat I LOVED IT!! I remember my first trip to the vet w/ my dad was the vet pulling a calf.  That was cool! I have processed many cattle working at a mixed animal clinic and really enjoyed it.  Now, with G-pa B. and dad's herd, and my small herd of 10 we try to keep our cattle healthy.  That means vaccinating, deworming, and fly control.  G-pa and dad complain about the cows alot.  Dad's favorite saying is, "That's why we eat them".  But for some reason they have invested time and money into new fence, and a nice new chute that makes working quite easier.  We got to use the new chute this past week when we preg check the heifers, dewormed and vaccinated the cows, and vaccinated, dewormed, implanted, # tagged, and castrated the calves.  All went fairly smooth until Cade ( dad's hired man ) mixed my calves and dad's calves together.  But with any concerned mama, the cows claimed their babies and were separated.
